Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026.
This policy explains what data is handled by the textfromvideo.com website, the Extract Text From Video app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (listed on the App Store as "Extract Text From Video: OCR", under the developer name InnoBee, A17Lab's former name), and the TextSnap Chrome extension. These products are made by A17Lab ("we", "us").
The short version. In the iPhone, iPad, and Mac app, text recognition runs on your device and your videos and photos are never uploaded to us. Some features do use the internet: ads in the free iPhone version, purchases, iCloud sync, link import, usage statistics, and the forms you choose to send. The TextSnap Chrome extension works differently: it sends the captured frame to our server to read the text. Each case is described below.
The website
- No accounts, cookies, analytics, or ad trackers.
- The online tool (extract text from video online) opens your video or image inside your browser. The file is never uploaded. To read text, the page downloads the open-source Tesseract OCR engine and language data from the jsDelivr CDN, which sees your IP address like any download.
- Hosting. Our hosting provider (Hostinger) and Cloudflare keep standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, to run and protect the site.
Extract Text From Video for iPhone and iPad
- Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework on your device. Your videos and photos are not sent to us or to anyone else for recognition.
- Translation uses Apple's Translation framework on your device. Apple may download language files the first time you use a language.
- iCloud sync is on by default and can be turned off in the app's Settings. When on, your scan history (detected text, translations, timestamps, file name, languages, and a small thumbnail image) is stored in your own private iCloud account by Apple. We cannot access it.
- Ads. The free version may show a banner ad from Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects information such as your IP address, device model, and ad interactions to show and measure ads. The app does not ask for permission to track you and does not access your device's advertising identifier. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Purchases. Payments are handled by Apple; we never receive your payment details. Our upgrade screens are provided by Superwall, which receives your subscription status, basic device information, and which upgrade screens you see. See Superwall's privacy policy.
- Usage statistics. The app sends usage events to our server (a17lab.com), for example that a video or photo was processed, its duration, how many lines of text were found, the languages chosen, processing time, whether you have Premium, and the app version. These events are linked to a random ID created when you first open the app. They never include your videos, photos, or the text found in them.
- Survey and suggestions. If you answer the optional welcome survey or send a suggestion, your answers are sent to our server.
- Feedback form. If you send feedback, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply and improve the app.
- Link import. If you paste a YouTube or TikTok link, the link is sent to our link service (snapvid.a17lab.com) to locate the video file. The video then downloads directly from YouTube or TikTok to your device, never through our server. Downloaded files are temporary and are deleted within about a day.
Extract Text From Video for Mac
- Text recognition runs on your Mac with Apple's Vision framework. Your files are not uploaded.
- The Mac app has no ads, no usage statistics, and no iCloud sync.
- If you answer the optional welcome survey or use the feedback form, your answers, or your email address and message, are sent to our server.
- Payments are handled by Apple.
TextSnap Chrome extension
- Text recognition runs on our server. When you capture a frame, that image is sent over an encrypted connection to textsnap.a17lab.com, read in memory, and not stored.
- To enforce the free limit, the server keeps a random device ID created by the extension and a count of recognitions. If you enter a license key, it is checked with our licensing server.
- Purchases are processed by Paddle, which shares your email address with us so we can send your license key.
- More detail: TextSnap privacy policy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not see, collect, or store the videos and photos you scan in the iPhone, iPad, or Mac app, or the text found in them.
- We do not require an account.
How long we keep data
Usage statistics, survey answers, and suggestions are kept as long as they help us run and improve the apps. Feedback emails are kept while we handle your message. Server logs are rotated by our providers. Data in your iCloud account stays under your control and is deleted when you delete it.
Your choices
- Turn off iCloud sync in the app's Settings, or delete history from inside the app.
- Skip the welcome survey and the feedback forms.
- Ask us to access or delete data linked to you by emailing [email protected].
Children
Our products are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
